About Jay Wilkinson, PsyD
Licensed Clinical Psychologist in Portland, Oregon
I have been a licensed Clinical Psychologist practicing in the Portland area since 2010. Prior to that, I worked and trained extensively in diverse settings including college counseling centers and prisons. I have been a member of the Anxiety Disorders Treatment Team at Pacific University’s School of Graduate Psychology and also trained and worked at Portland’s Anxiety & Panic Treatment Center.
As a longstanding psychologist with Multnomah County Health Department, my professional commitment has always been to serve the underserved. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to provide a wealth of behavioral therapy to culturally diverse and displaced individuals and families. (Note: My private practice is entirely separate and unaffiliated with Multnomah County Health Department.)

My Therapy Approach
My therapeutic work with clients is grounded in an understanding of the effects of trauma, neglect, and attachment injuries that occur in childhood. At the same time, my focus is always on meeting my clients in the here-and-now and using tailored, evidence-based techniques that are proven to help you break out of the cycle of chronic anxiety and depression and regain a sense of peace and enjoyment of life.
I use a combination of approaches in my therapy work, based on what a client needs. These approaches include:
- Emotion Focused Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
- Exposure and Response Prevention
- Interpersonal Therapy

My Practice
I currently work with individuals ages 18 and up. I am affirming of people of all identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences. I currently work with individual clients only. However, at times, in collaboration with a client’s interest, partners or family members may be invited to participate in a session to work on a specific goal.
I currently conduct virtual sessions only, which offer ease and convenience, but other benefits as well, including the option to meet while traveling, online ‘home visits’ where I can get a sense of your living space (and pets), and the ability to easily share images and material that enrich the therapy sessions.
And finally, on a person note, I have deep empathy and hopefulness for those struggling with their emotional health, as I have personal experience with living with and overcoming depression. I have traveled extensively internationally and I am an active spouse, father and community member. In my free time I love reading, movies and spending time with family and friends.
